Maslenitsa

Maslenitsa (also known as Butter Week, Crepe week, or Cheesefare Week), is an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday, celebrated during the last week before Great Lent, that is, the eighth week before Eastern Orthodox Pascha (Easter). Maslenitsa corresponds to the Western Christian Carnival, except that Orthodox Lent begins on a Monday instead of a Wednesday, and the Orthodox date of Easter can differ greatly from the Western Christian date.

“Maslenitsa” is held on the Central square in front of the hotel “Azimut”. On the square in front of the stage shall work in interactive games area with traditional Shrovetide amusements and prizes – hot pancakes. And on the square in front of the hotel “Meridian” are children’s inflatable rides – slides and trampolines.

The guests of the festival meet funny clowns and performances of the best national creative collectives polar capital. The final point of the holiday is a mass of folk song and dance run in the sky of the main symbols of the celebration of the Maslenitsa Scarecrow
