The Museum of the North-West Festival opens in Murmansk

October 12-14, on the basis of the Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore, a festival of museums of the North-West will be held.
For the second time, a large-scale event will be held in Murmansk, bringing together the museums of Murmansk, St. Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Petrozavodsk, Kaliningrad, Pskov, Ivangorod, Veliky Novgorod, Belozersk, Syktyvkar and Naryan-Mar.

The event was organized by the Murmansk Regional Museum of Regional Studies with the support of the Committee on Culture and Art of the Murmansk Region and the Government of the Murmansk Region.

Over the course of three days, the museums of the North-West will present events on the traditional folk culture of their region, demonstrate unique museum objects, share their experience with colleagues, and answer visitors’ questions.

Residents and guests of Murmansk expect thematic workshops, including a workshop on cloth fabrication from the National Museum of the Komi Republic, a lesson for preschoolers and schoolchildren will be held by the Novgorod State United Museum-Reserve, Belozero Regional Museum of Local Lore and Murmansk Regional Art Museum. It is possible to create pendants made of plastic – polymer clay – according to samples of medieval decorations at the site of the State Museum of History of St. Petersburg. The traditional festive girl costume of Karelia from the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia and folk belts from the collection of the Pskov State United Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve will be presented. Visitors to the museum can take part in Nenets games and learn to illustrate stories of fairy tales. Municipal museums of the Murmansk region will also take part in the festival. For the youngest visitors will work a children’s playground.

The grand opening of the festival will take place on October 12 at 12.00.

As part of the festival of museums of the North-West, on October 12, at 13.00, a creative meeting with folklorist Sergey Starostin (Moscow) will take place. A gift for the participants of the festival on October 13 at 19.00 (Murmansk, 3/1 Chelyuskintsev St., Seafarers’ Culture Center) will be the performance “The Marine Class” based on the stories of Boris Shergin performed by the composer, arranger, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist Sergey Starostin and theater and actress Tatiana Bondarenko movies (Moscow).
