Barents Bird 2016
08.04.2016 - 24.04.2016
International Cultural Festival «Barents Bird»
The festival «Barents Bird» follows the tradition of annual spring international cultural event with rich programme (previously the Days of Norway in Murmansk, then the Nordic Days in Murmansk). The peculiar feature of this year’s project is that the focus of the general concept and the festival programme is on the specificity of the location, the Murmansk region.
The aim of the festival is to develop the existing “art-environment” of the city and region by inviting culture professionals and celebrities as participants.
The festival consists of 6 blocks:
The cultural programme includes pop and experimental music concerts, theatrical and dance performances, art-performances, art and photo exhibitions, discussions, screenings and more.
A significant annual cultural event will attract the attention of local residents to cultural events in the region on the whole and to the festival events in particular. This will be possible due to the organization of activities in high-traffic areas, in open spaces where the residents can become the part of the cultural performance as spectators or direct participants. As examples can be mentioned: an art-performance in the shopping mall, the grand closing of the festival with a parade along the main avenue of the city.
The festival will become a huge event of the region as culture professionals from other cities and countries will be the participants of the festival, and this, as a result, will increase the destination attractiveness for tourists.
Target audience: residents of Murmansk and the Murmansk region (Apatity, Kirovsk, Nikel).
Participants of the festival: culture professionals of the region and cross-border countries (Norway, Finland, Sweden).
The main idea of the festival is culture crossing: joint projects by Russian, Norwegian and Finnish artists; fusion of art genres (music, literature, cinema, video projections, theatre, etc.); a combination of traditional and off-the-wall venues united by the idea of the festival; opportunities for people to experience art and communicate with each other within the cultural field.
