Day of Slavic Writing

24.05.2017 @ 08:00 - 17:00

Annually, on May 24, the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture is celebrated. It was to our country that the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles brothers Cyril and Methodius handed over the Cyrillic alphabet, which we are currently using. Few people know that Murmansk was the first capital of this great holiday, revived in the Kola Arctic in 1986.
On the eve of the meeting there will be a meeting and laying flowers at the memorial plaques of writers Vladimir Smirnov, Vitaly Maslov, Alexander Milanov, Vikden Sinitsyn, Alexander Podstanitsky and Nikolai Blinov.
On May 24 at 10.30 on Pervochuiteley square (Murmansk, Sophia Perovskaya st., 21a) will be lit a candle and a solemn moleben in honor of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius.
At 12:00, a procession of students, intellectuals and participants of the children’s handwritten book competition from the Azimut Hotel to the Pioneers Square will be held.
At 12.15 historians, writers, teachers, winners of competitions, schoolchildren, youth and amateur art groups will take part in the holiday “Word”.
On the same day at 13.00 in the Auditorium of the Palace of Culture (Murmansk, Pushkinskaya St., 3) there will be a festive concert of choral music. The best rooms of choral collectives of children’s schools of arts of Murmansk area and Murmansk college of arts will be presented to inhabitants and visitors of a city.
