Reindeer herder’s day is a holiday with traditional competitions in national sports of the peoples of the North and gathers guests and participants not only from the regions of the Russian Federation, but also from abroad. At the festival, everyone can try their hand at the ski run, feel like a reindeer herder or a dexterous hunter, throwing a lasso on a trochee or shooting a crossbow, compete in strength and dexterity, entering into battle with an opponent in the national struggle. The highlight of the holiday is traditionally reindeer sleigh races among professional reindeer herders who pass on their secrets from generation to generation. Men, women and boys compete separately. Participants carefully decorate their deer, train them in advance. Guests of the village of Lovozero will be able to get acquainted with national life by visiting the Sami village and the colorful city of craftsmen of the decorative arts of the indigenous peoples of the North “City of Masters”.
